Khustain Nuruu National Park was declared as a protected area in 1993 and is known as a place where the project of reintroduction of the Takhi (or wild horse) to its homeland was taken successfully. The park is about 100 km from the capital of Ulaanbaatar to the west. It is worth to stay in a ger camp for overnight if you want see the wildlife, as it is best seen at dusk and dawn.

The takhi information center inside the ger camp has nice displays telling the story of the wild horses’ return to Mongolia.
